Emerging in Morocco during the 10th century, Zellige has maintained its charming appeal, adorning the walls of residential spaces and landmarks. The glaze, color, and detailing of Zellige tiles evoke artisanal craftsmanship.
Creating this traditional ceramic tile starts with raw, lightly colored clay. The material is kneaded with water, shaped by hand, and sun-dried before undergoing an initial firing. Following this, each tile is individually glazed in a diverse range of colors and shades. The final step involves cutting the assortment into tiles of various shapes and sizes. The process imbues dynamic movement and organic texture–no two tiles are alike.
