Architectural Thin Stone Veneer

Architectural Thin Stone Veneer

Are you considering thin stone veneer to add a visual appeal to your space? This versatile building material is often used for decorative interior and exterior design applications. Our bespoke stone veneers come in a variety of depths, colors and textures that can’t be replicated. Let’s explore the advantages of using thin stone veneers.

In the stone industry, veneers refer to a chopped stone of the highest quality. There are two primary types, Thin and Full. The main differences between the two lie in the weight.

Thin Stone Veneers

Thin Stone Veneers are not meant to be “load-bearing” or intended for structural applications. They are cut to a minimum thicknes of 1 ¼” with an average length of between 8″ to 16″. That alone makes it ideal for vertical application outside and indoors. A lighter veneer will save you labor costs and time with a more straightforward installation process. The standardized Thin Veneer sizes available to order are 4″, 6″, 8″ to 10″ tall.

Full Stone Veneers

Full Stone Veneer generally has a thickness between 3″ to 5″ deep. They require a foundation prior to application and architects must meet additional structural requirements before installation.

Antique Pewter Limestone Thin Veneer

Incredibly Durable

What makes Thin Stone Veneer the perfect choice for residential and commercial spaces? It is incredibly durable.

For example, in California, thin veneers are a safer material to use. In the event of a seismic earthquake, you want a material that withstands substantial movement. The cut of our stone doesn’t weigh down the edges compared to heavy stone cladding.

Basement applications are more common in Midwestern states like Indiana or Minnesota. You can install Thin Veneer without ledges or footings to add a finishing touch and completely transform the space. Veneer substantially reduces the weight structures must hold.

We Recommend A Selection Of Natural Limestone, Including:

PEWTER

Antique Pewter is a medium-density, tight-grain limestone with warm neutral hues. This stone is available in all architectural and flatwork formats, including interior and exterior veneer.

WHITE

White Limestone carries a diverse range of off-white tones varying in brightness. It ages well with time and exposure to the elements, making it a suitable stone for exterior applications.

CREAM

Cream is another medium-density, tight-grain limestone with smooth, warm tones. It is a versatile stone found in fireplaces, cladding and veneers.

CHARCOAL

Charcoal Limestone provides soft grey hues, making it highly versatile in design possibilities. It is available in all architectural and tile formats. That includes interior and exterior veneer.

Veneer Corners

Natural Thin Stone Veneers usually have a matching corner to wrap around the edges, providing a fuller and thicker appearance. After applying veneers with a thinset or mortar, finish the area with a matching stone surround to create a seamless transition.

Executive Vice President of the Architectural Division, Roger Ramirez, can attest to the excellence of MATERIAL’s veneer corners. “Our stone corners are the best in the business. Extending the corners to 4 to 6 inches gives the wall depth on the edge, making the corner appear thicker than the 1 ¼ inch,” he said.
